Ms. Alberta Burns Bunton, 81, of Morganton, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 25, 2026 at The Berkeley following a period of declining health.

Alberta was born September 14, 1945 in Clay County, WV; a daughter of the late Mary Clark Wadkins and stepfather, Jack Wadkins. She loved her life and enjoyed being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In her spare time, she liked to crochet and shop for the things she would turn into projects. She was a caregiver by nature and will be dearly missed by those she leaves behind.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in passing by her husbands, J. L. “Jimmy” Owenby of thirty years and Ronald Bunton of eleven years; a daughter, Belle Jean Owenby; brother, “Bubby” Burns; sister, Emma Jean Haynes (Larry Gene Haynes, Sr.); a nephew, Larry Gene “Beau” Haynes, Jr.; and a niece, Connie Haynes Emmerson.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Meri Lynn Owenby (Roosevelt “Chris” Kingsberry); two bonus daughters, Lisa Cope Streets and Patricia "Pat" Sturgill; granddaughter, Bryanne Nacole Rathburn (Chris); two greatgrandchildren, Caleb Wayne Cameron (Sophia Willis) and Jaxson Lee Rathburn; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

A private service will be held by the family at a later date.
