Alice Hill Nicely, 83, of Valdese, passed away on Friday January 2, 2026 at her residence after a period of declining health.
Mrs. Nicely was born February 14, 1942, in Albion, N.Y. a daughter of the late Robert Wilson and Meriam Davis Hill. She was a member of the New Beginnings Baptist Church in Morganton and retired after a long career with Burke Mills, as well as Winn Dixie, Kmart and Roses. Alice was active with the Burke County React at its start up for a number of years. She enjoyed bowling with family and friends and especially spending time with all her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Lee Nicely, sister Joan Pace, sister-in-law, Bobbie Jack Stamey, brother-in-law, Hubert Wilkes and mother and father-in-law, Roberta and Melvin O. Nicely.
Those left to cherish her memory are her three children, Lee Nicely, Jr. (Dana) of Valdese, Sandra Carswell (Tracy) of Lenoir, Peggy Vines (Mark) of the home, sister, Sharon Wilkes of FL and brother-in-law Dennis Stamey of FL. Also surviving are the apples of her eye, her grandchildren, Josh Castaneda (Jamie), Janet Spann (Thomas Martin), Robert Nicely, Cheryl Paige (Stephen), Corey Jones, (Abigail), Katie and Libby Vines, and twelve great-grandchildren, Raelynn, Derby, Tanner, Anthony, Kristian, Frankie, Eli, Link, Nate, Riley, Brody, Rosie and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday January 4, 2026, from 2;00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese. A Graveside Service will follow at Burke Memorial Park with Donald and Rachel Taylor officiating.
The family would like to offer a special thank you Carolina Caring, for the excellent care given to Mrs. Nicely.
