Amy Louise Brittain Martin, 54, of Hickory, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 26, 2026 at Frye Regional Medical Center following a period of declining health.

Amy was born August 22, 1971 in Burke County, a daughter of the late Jimmy and Lottie Lail Brittain. She was a mathematics teacher at Hibriten for ten years and at East Burke for twenty-two years. She took her faith very seriously and was a member of Burke Chapel United Methodist Church. She also attended North Morganton United Methodist Church and Warlick's United Methodist Church. Amy had a passion for piano and played in church for more than thirty years. She loved to jewelry shop and had a fondness for bears and Snoopy. She was very generous with her time and finances, especially the last few years of her life.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in passing by a brother, Matthew Brittain.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of thirty-three years, Tony Martin; son, Hunter Martin (Kiara); aunt and uncle, Bud and Shirley Brittain; aunt and uncle, Scott and Nell Brittain of Morganton; uncle, Max Hildebran of Vale; two cats, Yogi and Booboo; and two dogs, Demon and Deacon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the Burke Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. April Abernathy and Rev. David Rorie officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society Breast Cancer Foundation at 1-800-227-2345 or at https://American Cancer Society.

Heritage Funeral Service & Crematory is assisting the family.

Amy was particularly fond of Yogi bear, and she wanted everyone to remember that she was “smarter than the average bear.”
