Betty Mace Yates, 79, of Hildebran, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 30, 2026 following a period of declining health.

Betty was born April 18, 1947 in Mitchell County, a daughter of the late Jones and Nadine Rowe Mace. She was a dedicated educator for more than 31 years, primarily serving in the Mitchell County School System. Betty was a three-time graduate of Appalachian State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, a Master’s degree in Education, and an Education Specialist (EdS) degree.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in passing by a sister, Barbara McKinney.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Glenn Yates; children, Josh Biddix (Kellie) and Robbie Biddix (Kirsten); siblings, Jim Mace (Jane) and Eddie Mace (Karen); grandchildren, Ryan Biddix, Drew Biddix, Maegan Biddix, Zachary Reed, Haven Biddix, and Cia Biddix; stepchildren, Timothy Yates (Robin) and Pauline Schulke (Andrew); two step grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service. Interment will follow the service at Berry Chapel Baptist Church in Spruce Pine.
