Blanche Rena Powell

Mrs. Blanche Rena Sweet Powell, 59, of Morganton, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, in Knoxville, TN.

Rena was born on September 18, 1966, in Catawba County to the late Everette Leroy Sweet and Sarah Bell Breeden Sweet. She was formerly employed as a machine operator in veneer manufacturing. Rena was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and was known as a “cheer mom” as she traveled and attended many cheer competitions across North Carolina and other states.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Carol Ann Minton and Sarah Ellen Hall.

Surviving is her beloved husband, Curtis Stephen Powell of the home, and two daughters, Ashley Powell of the home, and Elizabeth Walker of Lenoir. Also surviving is a grandson, Stephen Blish, one brother, Everette Leroy Sweet Jr. of Florida, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, including cousin, Kathy Clayton, and an aunt, Blanche Kiser and husband Sammy.

A memorial service will be held on Friday March 6, 2026, at 2:00 PM at El Bethel Baptist Church in Morganton, with Rev. Justin Cunningham officiating.

The family will receive friends on Friday, from1:00 to 2:00 PM at El Bethel Baptist Church.
