Calvin Kou Yang

Calvin Kou Yang, 18, of Valdese, passed away at home on Monday, September 29, 2025.

Calvin was born October 13, 2006 in Burke County, a son of SoKou Yang and Houa Vang. His life was music. He played many instruments, mostly brass. He loved band and played in the band at Lenoir-Rhyne University. His favorite genres were jazz and classical. He was a wonderful brother to his siblings. He was always patient with them and enjoyed teaching them new things.

Calvin is preceded in passing by a grandmother, Mao Vue, and two uncles, Brike Chang and True Her.

Those left to cherish his memory include his parents, SoKou Yang and Houa Vang; brothers, Jayson Yang and Joseph Yang; sister, Olivia Yang; grandparents, Cher Pha Yang and Joua Her; grandfather, Vang Boua Vang; many aunts and uncles; numerous nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins.

The family will hold funeral services on Saturday, October 18th, 2025, at the Hmong Unified Chapel at 1914 N College Ave, Newton, NC 28658 beginning at 9 AM. Interment will follow the services on the following day, Sunday, October 19th, 2025, at Burke Memorial Park.
