Nancy Carolyn Hastings, lovingly known as “Mom Mom,” passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025. Born on August 12, 1936, in Hickory, NC, Carolyn spent her life devoted to caring for her family and those around her, embodying love and strength from a young age.
Carolyn was proud to have worked at MDI for many years, where she built lasting friendships and cherished her time with her work family. Her spunky spirit, tough resilience, and infectious sense of fun made her a joy to be around. Whether she was playing cards, traveling with her “girls,” or making everyone laugh with her thoughtful and quirky gifts, Carolyn brought warmth and joy to every moment.
She was a peacemaker and a caregiver, always putting others before herself. Carolyn fiercely loved and advocated for her two sons, raising them with unwavering devotion and pride. Her greatest passion was spending time with her family—game nights, beach trips, home-cooked meals, and everyday moments were made special by her presence.
Carolyn was a woman of deep faith and a devoted disciple of the Lord. She was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Connelly Springs, where her love for God was evident in her life and actions. She was especially passionate about the church’s food ministry, serving others with kindness and generosity through meals and fellowship.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edison and Ada Throneburg; her sisters Janette Throneburg and Virginia (Perry) Hawkins; her brother Glen Throneburg; her beloved husband Andrew Hastings; her son Joel Hastings; her grandson Nicholas; and her great-grandchild Emma.
Carolyn is survived by her son Jeff (Meana) Hastings; grandchildren Ben (Ali) Hastings, Kara Hastings, Ryan Hastings, Adam (Amy) Hastings, Anna (Jordan) Gambill, and Matt (Catherine) Hastings; and great-grandchildren AJ, Mitt, Everett, Griffin, and Matthew. Her family will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives with the same love, faith, and joy that she shared so generously.
A memorial service to celebrate Carolyn’s life will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Connelly Springs, NC. Family and friends are invited to gather and remember the cherished and extraordinary woman who was “Mom Mom” to so many.
