Listen to Obituary

Charles Allen Chapman, 64, of Rutherford College, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 4, 2026 following a brief illness.

Allen was born March 5, 1962, in Burke County, a son of Carolyn Young Chapman and the late Ulysses Grant Chapman. He was a proud craftsman who devoted thirty-five years of his working life to Sherrill’s Furniture before retiring from the furniture industry.

He was a fun-loving, active man who never met a stranger and was blessed with many friends. His presence brought smiles and laughter to those around him. He had a love for all kinds of music and faithfully sang with his church choir. Even after being fitted with a prosthetic leg, he never let it keep him from doing what he loved. He would make the journey up to the choir loft to lift his voice in praise. He was a former member of East Valdese Baptist Church and a devoted member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.

Allen had a lifelong love of football and was a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He played football at East Burke High School and semi-professionally with the Warriors. He also shared his love of the game by coaching Valdese Little League Football throughout the 1990s. In addition to football, Allen had a passion for golf and could often be found out on the green. Of all the places he enjoyed, his happy place was on the golf course with his daughters, making memories together.

Allen faced life's challenges with determination and a spirit that could not easily be overcome. No matter what life brought his way, he could never be kept down for long.

In addition to his father, he is preceded in passing by his wife, Crystal Farris Chapman.

Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Carolyn Young Chapman; children, Dr. Brandy Chapman and spouse Bruce Holstien and Caleigh Chapman and husband Tyler Bruno; brothers, Rocky Chapman, Sr., and family and Jeff Chapman and wife Rhonda and family; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at 2:30 PM in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with Pastor Randy Cook officiating. Interment will follow the service at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at Heritage Funeral Service from 1:30 PM until 2:30 PM.

Heritage Funeral Service & Crematory is assisting the family.
