Charles Alonzo Shook, 90, of Valdese passed away peacefully at Trinity Village on Monday, February 16, 2026; after a prolonged battle with dementia.

Charles was born on March 20, 1935 in Catawba County to the late Junius Shook and Lillian Bostain Shook. Before graduation from high school he became a proud Eagle Scout. After graduation Charles enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the USS Harry E Hubbard as a radar man. He continued his career as an air traffic controller in Atlanta until his retirement in 1977. Afterwards he enjoyed his little slice of heaven in the NC mountains. He was a lifelong member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church MS.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara O. Shook, brother, Edwin Bostain; and sister, Janice Teague.

He is survived by his daughter, Jenifer Shook of Valdese; son, David Shook (Angie) of Valdese; grandson, Spencer Guffey; sister, Sarah Bowman of California; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at Trinity Village for their dedicated and thoughtful care.

No services are scheduled at this time.
