Christine Renee Ross Meek, affectionately known to all as "Chris," 62, of Morganton, North Carolina, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, October 19, 2026. After a life marked by remarkable strength, unwavering love, and a spirit that simply would not quit, Chris is now resting in the presence of her Savior, free from pain and suffering, and made whole again.

Born May 30, 1964, Chris was the daughter of the late James Albert Ross and Zula Powell Ross. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Judy Elizabeth Ross Reeves, and her brothers, Dennis Allen Ross and Jimmy Dean Ross (surviving wife, Sharon).

Chris was, without question, one of the strongest and most determined women you could ever meet. She had a heart big enough to love everyone around her, a willingness to help anyone in need, and a stubborn streak that those who knew her best will remember with a smile. If you needed someone to listen, someone to lean on, or someone to tell you exactly what she thought, Chris was your person.

She found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved flowers, getting her hands in the dirt, and watching things grow. She took special delight in the birds that visited her yard, faithfully keeping her feeders filled, especially for the finches she loved so much. She was an avid reader, and her children can hardly remember a time growing up when she didn't have a book in her hands, usually somewhere between cooking supper, washing dishes, doing laundry, and keeping the household running. She had a wonderful sense of humor, loved to laugh and joke, and was often the subject of her family's playful teasing. Although she might have pretended otherwise, those closest to her knew she enjoyed every minute of it.

Of all the things Chris treasured in life, nothing compared to her family. Her two children were her pride and joy, but becoming "Nana" brought her a special kind of happiness. Her grandchildren held a place in her heart that words could never fully describe. She loved them fiercely and was so proud of each one.

Chris had a special way of making everyone feel loved, and that love extended well beyond people. She adored animals, whether they belonged to her or someone else. A visit to her daughter's house often meant arriving with treats for the dogs, who seemed to recognize the same gentle, loving heart that everyone else did. Even the most protective of pups couldn't resist a little affection from her.

Left to cherish her memory are her longtime companion, Junior "JD" Sain of Morganton, who stood faithfully by her side and lovingly cared for her; her daughter, Amy Meek McPeters and husband Travis of Nebo; her son, Carl Lee Meek and his companion, Madalyn, of Morganton; her beloved grandchildren, Dalton McPeters and wife Paige of Morganton, Kelsy McPeters and her fiancé Bradley of Nebo, Dylan McPeters of Nebo, and Evelyn and Waylon of Morganton; and her brother, Dave Ross and wife Ann of Wisconsin.

She also leaves behind her beloved four-legged companion, Gracie, who held such a special place in her heart that she frequently called her by Amy's name, and Amy by Gracie's — a family memory sure to bring smiles for years to come.

Chris's life was not without hardship, but she faced every challenge with the same fierce determination that defined her. Even in the most difficult seasons, her love for her family never wavered. Her strength was extraordinary, but her greatest legacy will always be the love she gave so freely.

To those who loved her, Chris was known by many names, but each one carried a special kind of love. She was "Mama" to Amy, "Mom" to Carl, "Maw" to Travis, and "Nana" to her beloved grandchildren. To her longtime companion JD, she was affectionately known as "Kid." Whatever name she answered to, she made sure those who called it knew just how deeply they were loved.

While her family will miss her more than words can express, they find comfort in knowing that her suffering has ended, her body has been made new, and she is now in the presence of the One who loves her even more than they do.

Her hands are at rest, her pain is gone, and her love will remain with us always.

A Gathering of Friends will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Service.
