Miss Christine Nix, 80, of Drexel, NC , passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at UNC Healthcare, Blueridge, after a period of declining health.
Miss Nix was born March 3, 1945, in Burke County, a daughter of the late Charles Bradford Nix and Ollie Stone Nix, where she was the youngest child, with six brothers, three of whom died in infancy, and two sisters, all preceding her in death.
Christine graduated from Oak Hill High School and served for 17 years as an honored employee of Autumn Care Nursing Center in Drexel. While living in Drexel, Christine was a faithful member of Drexel First Baptist Church and enjoyed the fellowship of the many friends who visited her when she became home bound.
Christine was a brave fighter and survivor of two bouts of cancer throughout her life. She recovered fully from those, but due to internal health issues and failing joints, she eventually moved to Cambridge House Assisted Living Center in Hildebran, North Carolina. During her seven years there, including through the COVID epidemic, Christine was afflicted with COVID several times, but through the diligent care she received from Cambridge House, she recovered from those attacks. A different infection brought Christine close to death in 2023, and that illness included a short stay in Hospice, but through care and her own determination, she recovered once more.
Thankfully, Christine enjoyed the activities, therapy, and routine care provided by Cambridge House. There, she called her therapists, caregivers, and office staff her buddies and gossip partners. She enjoyed meals, fellowship, bingo games, and other outings with her fellow residents and friends. There, she also loved church services, with her most recent minister being Rev. Danny G. Oakley, a pastor associated with Long View Baptist church, and who will conduct Christine’s graveside service.
Christine is survived by two nieces, Patricia Cooper Baker of Maggie Valley, NC, and Connie (Mrs. Don) Nix Gisi of Cocoa Beach, FL., and a number of grand- and great-grand nephews and nieces in Florida, Tennessee, and North Carolina.
A graveside service will the held at 2:00 pm on Monday, August 4, at Riverside Baptist Church Cemetery in Morganton, NC with the Reverend Danny G. Oakley officiating. Reverend Oakley is a pastor associated with Long View Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to Cambridge House, 114 10th St. NC, Hildebran, NC 28637.
