Cleotus "Buddy" Carswell

Mr. Cleotes “Buddy” Carswell, 68, of Morganton, went home to be with his Lord & Savior, on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Amorem Hospice, following a period of declining health.

Buddy was born on May 22, 1957, in Burke County to Odes Sanford Carswell and the late Mable Patton Carswell. He was member of Grace Baptist Church in Morganton, and was retired from the furniture manufacturing industry, which included time at both Henredon and Drexel Furniture over the years.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his sister, Wilma Carswell Smith, brother in-law, Ronald Dean Smith, his grandparents, and many beloved aunt, uncles and cousins.

He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Nancy Marie Carswell of the home, his father, Odes Sanford Carswell of Morganton, niece, Alice McKinney and husband Steven, and nephew Johnathon McKinney of Nebo. Also surviving are Marie’s children, Jonathan Burnette and wife Tammy, with their daughters, Sydney and Sara, Mark Burnette and wife Kristie, and their daughters, Alexis and Allison, along with many other extended family members, whom he loved and cherished.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at Grace Baptist Church in Morganton, with Rev. Marty Bess and Rev. Greg Leonard officiating. Interment will follow at Friendly Freewill Baptist Church in Morganton, with Rev. Paul Gridstaff officiating the committal service.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. at Grace Baptist Church in Morganton.
