Mr. Danny Michael Nix, 69, of Hickory, passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Catawba Valley Medical Center, following a period of declining health.

Danny was born on October 17, 1955, in Union County, GA to the late Cecil Nix and Hazel Harris Nix. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, before beginning a lifelong career in the furniture industry, where he worked as a supervisor until his retirement after the passing of his wife Kay. Danny was a man who valued his independence and privacy, but also loved a good story, especially if it involved a little gossip. He was known for giving his honest opinion, whether anyone asked for it, and he often showed up at your house unannounced. He did not appreciate it nearly as much when the favor was returned. Danny loved a good round of golf, cheering for Tar Heel basketball, watching football and keeping up with NASCAR. He was rarely seen without a hat, which covered his bald spot his grandchildren loved to tease him about. One of them even insisted on kissing it goodbye every time she left, hoping it might help grow back. It never did but always made him smile. Fiercely devoted to his grandchildren, Danny was tough on the outside but had a soft spot for the people he loved most.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kay Nix, two stepdaughters, Teresa Huffman and Melissa Davis, a brother Gary Nix and a granddaughter, Ginger Berry.

Surviving is a stepdaughter, Ericka McCrain of Mountain View, a stepson, Robert Lutz of Waxhaw, and daughter, Dia Hefner. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Channon Hildebran, Kelly Ramsey, Brandi Deal, Nicholaus McCrain, Dixie Huffman, Myranda Huffman, Scottie Hildebran, Annie Strickland, Amanda Huffman and Emily Moharam, 25 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Roger Nix and wife Genice, Rick Nix and wife Connie, special niece, Renee Griffin and brother in-law, Levi Lowman and wife Fran.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service. The family will receive friend on Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. at Heritage.
