David Pressley Cook, 83, of Valdese, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at home following a period of declining health.

David was born on December 31, 1942 in Burke County, a son of the late Roy and Celia Chapman Cook. He was a proud United States Army veteran. He was a jack-of-all-trades ranging from woodworking projects to automobiles. He loved family and the town of Valdese, and he served as the Superintendent of the Town of Valdese Water Works Department for nearly thirty years.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in passing by his wife of fifty-five years, Mary Sue Cook; brother, Leroy Cook; and a sister-in-law, Margie Cook.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Joan Cook; sons, Todd Cook (Christina) and Dean Cook (Dolores); grandchildren, Russell Cook and Randall Cook; and numerous other extended family members.

The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
