David Lee Sheffield, 72, of Valdese, passed away unexpectedly on June 30, 2026 at Frye Regional Medical Center.

David was born September 24, 1953 in Moore County, to the late Roy Lee Sheffield and Edna Sanders Sheffield. He was always known to have a smile on his face and walking to McDonalds in Valdese for his morning coffee.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Hoglen Sheffield; son, Jason Sheffield; and sisters, Kathy Hughes, and Wanda Gwyn.

He is survived by his daughters, Rebecca Elmore and husband Scotty, and Susann Buchanan and husband Steven; sons, David Sheffield Jr. and wife Misty, and Joseph Sheffield. Also surviving is his girlfriend, Bernice Abernathy; his grandchildren, Josh Elmore and wife Jessica, Tyler Elmore and wife Brooke, Brittany Anderson and husband Jonathan, Breanna Young, Samantha Wilson, Jaycob Buchanan, David Sheffield III, and Damon Jackson; and his great grandchildren, Lillian Anderson, Elaina Anderson, and Billy Elmore.
