Donald Carl Sanford

Mr. Donald Carl Sanford, 82, of Valdese, passed away on Sunday August 17, 2025, at UNC Blue Ridge Health Care, after a period of declining health.

Mr. Sanford was born March 24, 1943, in Massachusetts, a son of the late Harry and Dorothy Emmons Sanford. Donald was retired as a Mechanical Engineer with the Bimbo Bakery. He enjoyed spending time on his motorcycle with his friends at Myra’s in Valdese.

Surviving are his wife Kathleen O’Leary Sanford of the home, a son, Kevin Sanford of Tampa, FL, and three daughters, Amy Lutchman (Elisha) of Valdese, Laurie Whitney (Alan) of Ware, MA and Susan Piche (Mark) of Ware, MA. Also surviving are four sisters, Judy, Alyce, Shelia and Sandy and the apples of his eye, his grandchildren Jerry, Mikela, Gigi, Lani, Jesse, Shane, Hunter, Kathleen, and Hannah; and one great-grandchild, Max.

At Donald’s request, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese is assisting the family.
