Donna English Read

Donna English Read, 81, of Hickory, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 8, 2025 at Carolina Caring Hospice House following a period of declining health.

Donna was born January 30, 1944 in Mitchell County, a daughter of the late Steve English, Sr., and Mary Buchanan English. Her interests were her family and her church, both of which she loved, as well as peanut butter milkshakes.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in passing by her husband, Neil Read; daughter, Cathi Jo Fowler; stepson, Sean; grandchildren, Benny, Bobby, and Dallas; and a nephew, David Dotson.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Nick Stearns (Sherri) and Crissee Mackie (Keith); grandchildren, Faith Hoyle (Noah) and Grace Stearns and her fiancé, Dylan Lamm; greatgrandson, Norris Hoyle; sister, Diane Hawn (Melvin, Sr.); brother, Steve English, Jr., (Tammy); and the rest of her loving family, Alisha, Steven, Connor, Tammy, Melvin, Jr., Taylor, Logan, Kolt, Kamryn, Corey, and Ashlyn.

The family would like to extend their thanks to Carolyn Bridgeman. Donna cherished y’all’s friendship and the time spent going back and forth to church.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025 at 3 PM at Royal Chapel Church of God on George Hildebran Rd., with Pastor Mike Campbell officiating. Interment will follow the service at Fairview Cemetery in Hickory.

The family will receive friends prior to the service on Friday, December 12, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM at Royal Chapel Church of God.
