Dorothy Yvonne Carswell Boughman, 89, of Morganton, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 27, 2026 at College Pines following a period of declining health.

Dorothy was born April 5, 1937 in Burke County, a daughter of the late Dorse Carswell and Brunnie Carswell. She never met a stranger and had a caring heart for other people. She loved her family and church family, although she was especially fond of spoiling her grandchildren. She was blessed with a green thumb and would grow all sorts of flowers. She loved to cook.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in passing by her husband, Rev. James Boughman; and several siblings, Mack Carswell, Willard Carswell, and Ruby Carswell.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Jay Boughman (Sherry), Billy Boughman (Tanya), and Tracy Boughman (Marcie); grandchildren, Jessica Arnold (Erskine), Lori Gross (Willie), Lauren Whitson (Chris), B.J. Boughman (Cierra) and Raymi Boughman; siblings, James Carswell (Ott) and Odes Sanford Carswell; ten greatgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with Pastor Marty Bess officiating. Interment will follow the service at Burke Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Service.
