Erna Hildgard Hayes

Mrs. Erna Hildgard Hayes, 97, of Morganton, passed away on Friday June 13, 2025, at Carolina Caring Hospice, Newton, NC after a period of declining health.

Mrs. Hayes was born July 6, 1927, in Bremia, Germany, a daughter of the late Ludwig and Erna Rienlter Soboll. Erna was of the Lutheran faith and retired as a seamstress in the Dry-Cleaning industry. She was a WW II bride and came to America unable to speak a word of English.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Lester Hayes, a daughter, Christal Hayes and all of her siblings.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Larry Hayes (Lucinda), Tony Hayes (Sissy), daughters, Patricia Gale McCormick (Kendrick Richy), Judy Lims )Gene) and Karen Hymiller. Also surviving are the apples of her eye, her eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday July 5, 2025, at Thrive Church, Morganton, NC with the Rev. Paul Kidd officiating.
