Fannie Newton Williams, 94, of Valdese, passed away on Wednesday January 7, 2026, at UNC Healthcare, Morganton, after a brief illness.
Mrs. Williams was born April 1, 1931, in Cleveland County, the eighth child of the late William Nolan and Zula Wall Newton. She was a graduate of Lenoir Rhyne College and was retired from the US Government as the distributor of funds for health care programs.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr John Henry Williams and all seven of her brothers and sisters.
Those left to cherish her memory are her nieces and nephews: James Richards, Blenda Ward, Louis Vinay, Robert Vinay, Virginia Ruth Dickinson, Christine Newton Wilson, Martha Newton Eatmon, Patricia Newton DeGruchy; and stepchildren, John David Williams, Beth Williams, Richard Williams and Tina Williams.
Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday January 11,2026, in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, with the Rev Beth Miller officiating. Interment will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 13, 2026, in the Western Carolina Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Sunday at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese.
