Floy Mae Fortenberry

Mrs. Floy Mae Burns Fortenberry, 101, of Hickory, passed away peacefully at her residence, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, November 23, 2025.

Floy was born on October 21, 1924, in Burke County to the late Walter Burns and Bessie Hudson Burns. She was a lifelong member of Wilkie’s Grove Baptist Church, and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker for her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Fortenberry, two sons, Wayne Fortenberry and Danny Fortenberry, grandson, Shawn Fortenberry, and her siblings, Violet Burns, Ray Paige, Connie Yancey, Auby Burns, Brady Burns and Vergie Wellman.

Surviving are her children; Charlie Fortenberry and wife Irene of Hickory, James Fortenberry of Hickory, Jerry Fortenberry and wife Sherry of Icard, Judy Anderson of the home, Brenda Huffman and husband Rick of Hickory, and Ronnie Fortenberry of Connelly Springs, and sister in-laws, Fredia Fortenberry and Carolyn Jones. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild, and numerous step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at 3:00 P.M. at Wilkie’s Grove Baptist Church, with Rev. Thurman Roe and Rev. Chance Settle officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with David Fortenberry, Steven Anderson, Dusty Fortenberry, Casey Fortenberry, Rodney Brittain, Terry Williams, Kelly Fortenberry and Michael Fortenberry serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.
