Ford Jackson "Jack" Leigh II, 77, of Morganton passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at his residence following a brief illness.
Jack was born January 29, 1949 in Burke County to the late Ford Jackson Leigh Sr and Leona Taylor Leigh. Jack was an Oak Hill Bulldog in the class of 1967, where he played football, basketball, baseball, and ran track. His nickname his senior year was "Captain & Cute"
He was a graduate of WPCC and Appalachian State. He taught and coached several sports at Staunton Military Academy and in Brunswick County, Virginia before returning home to Morganton. He was a Godsend helping take care of his mom & dad in their later years. Jack was cared about by so many; those at work, family and old friends.
He will be missed by his daughter, Angel Leigh, and precious granddaughters, Sophia and Sydney and his sister, Sylvia.
Other survivors include, Brett, Christy, Curran, Zoe, Brian & baby Wilson, Marley, Brad, Ashton, Jonathan and baby Jack, Taylor, JJ, and Valerie.
He will be greatly missed by his close friend, Shannon.
We will miss his laughter, his eagerness to help, that extra mile he would go to be there for us.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2026 from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM Oak Hill United Methodist Church in Morganton.
Bring a story to tell and a smile to help us remember my brother, Jack.
