Fred Douglas Hawkins Sr.

Fred Douglas “Freddy” Hawkins, Sr., 78, of Lenoir, NC, answered God’s call on October 17, 2025 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

He was born on October 27, 1946 in Burke County and was one of 7 sons born to the late Elonzo E. Hawkins and Dorothy Kincaid Hawkins. He attended Olive Hill High School, and retired from Harper Furniture Company in Lenoir. He was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Valdese, and will be affectionately remembered as a loving father, husband, son, brother and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Todd Lynn Hawkins; a grandson, Fred Douglas Hawkins III; and his brothers, Carl C. Hawkins, Roy Leonard Hawkins, Alphonzo Hawkins, Marshall Hawkins and Bradley Hawkins.

Survivors include his loving wife, Rickey C. Hawkins of the home; daughters, Seterria Taylor of Winston-Salem, Tabotha Hawkins of Winston-Salem; a son, Fred Douglas Hawkins, Jr. (Susan) of Greensboro; step-children, Crysta Scott of Winston-Salem, Samuel Scott, Jr. of Lenoir, Derek Scott of Lenoir, and Dominque Scott of Hickory; a brother, Bruce Hawkins, Sr. (Judy) of Valdese; a maternal aunt, Anne Ramseur; a sister-in-law, Mildred Hawkins; and a brother-in-law, Robert Carlton (Beverly). Also, he leaves a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives, family and friends to cherish his memory.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday October 24, 2025 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, with Rev. Wesley E. Hendrix officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 1:00-2:00 P.M. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
