Geneva Fredell Brittain

Mrs. Geneva M. Fredell Brittain, 97, of Hickory, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Amorem Hospice of Burke, following a period of declining health.

Geneva was born on September 28, 1928, in Burke County to the late Amos Fredell and Delia Lail Fredell. She retired from Burke Yarns after 40 years of service as a supervisor and was a lifelong and active member of St. Johns Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher and part of the Women’s Missionary Union. She loved to do puzzles and travel, but her main hobby was quilt making, including special embroidery quilts, candlewick quilts, crochet quilts, Afghans and baby quilts for the family. She loved canning, making cakes, and special foods for her family and her church family. Geneva was also known for her memory over the years, as folks would call to ask for old recipes and family histories of the George Hildebran community.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lonia Brittain, and her seven brother and sisters.

Surviving is her son, Ronnie E. Brittain and wife Lorie of Hickory, and her daughter, Brenda Hinegardner and husband Eldon of Hickory. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Tracy Hinegardner, Jody Hinegardner, Angie Ward and Rhonda Hollifield, eight great-grandchildren: Savannah Hinegardner, Riley Hinegardner, Dylan Ward and wife Shawna, Macy Ward, Drew Hollifield, Landon Hollifield, Harper Hollifield and Dustyn Hinegardner, and a special niece, Sylvia Epley and husband Dennis.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at St. Johns Baptist Church, with Rev. Eldon Hinegardner, Rev. Sonny Mull and Rev. Tony Dyson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, from 12:30 until 2:00 P.M. at St. Johns Baptist Church.
