Harold Yates Berry

Mr. Harold Yates Berry, Sr., 91, of Connelly Springs, passed away on Monday June 16, 2025, at his residence after a period of declining health.

Mr. Berry was born February 4, 1934, in Burke County, a son of the late Harold Odell Berry and Golda Lou-Emma Childers Berry Kiser. He attended Bollinger’s Chapel United Methodist Church and retired from Alba-Waldensian as a machinist. Yates enjoyed fishing, hunting and especially riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. In his young years he enjoyed Motorcycle racing. He served his country as a veteran of the US Navy from 1951 until 1955.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marcella Stafford.

Those left to cherish are his wife, Vivian Kay Starnes Berry, children, Harold Yates Berry, Jr. and wife Jeri of Connelly Springs, Johnna Gilliland and husband Todd of Rutherford College and Ronald Bentley and wife Gena of Connelly Springs and a sister, Jocy Shronce of Valdese. Also surviving are the apples of his eye, his grandchildren, Jesse Berry (Jessica), Stephanie Keller (Justin), Christopher Barnes (Jennifer), Justin Bentley, Ashley Anthony (Josh), Samuel Carswell (Kansas), Andrew Carswell (Emily), Hunter Greer and Brandon Parson (Kristen), and great-grandchildren, Riley Berry, Reagan Berry, Emma Anthony, Briliee Bentley, Connor Carswell, Ellie Carswell, Josie Carswell, Kara Carpenter, Leah Parson, Jenna Parson and Hadley Parson.

Funeral Services for Harold Yates Berry, Sr. will be at 3:00 P.M. Friday June 20, 2025, in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese, with Rev. Stephen Pickard officiating. Interment will follow in the Burke Memorial Park with Military Honors by the US Navy and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.

The Family will receive friends from 2 until 3:00 P.M. Friday at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese.
