Mrs. Helen Gazda Cline, 98, of Valdese, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026, at UNC-Blue Ridge Morganton.
Helen was born on August 5, 1927, in Taunton, MA, to the late Tytus Gazda and Mary Giza Gazda. She was a longtime member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Morganton and was employed for fifty years as a legal secretary for Patrick, Harper & Dixon attorneys at law. Helen enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading her books, cross stitching and crocheting, and antiquing with her Joe. She also especially enjoyed and loved her grandsons. Helen married Joe on February 9, 1952, in Taunton, MA and they were together for 55 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Joe Billy Cline, a son, Stephen Joseph Cline, and her siblings, Walter Gazda, Jenni Banas, Amelia St. Y’ves, Theodore Gazda, and Frances Gorczyca.
Surviving is her son, Mark Allan Cline and wife Jane of Winston Salem, and two grandsons, Jarret Cline and Colin Cline, both of Pinnacle, NC. Also surviving is a sister, Josephine Gazda of Middleboro, MA, and her nieces, and nephews; Paul Banas, Peter St. Y’ves, Nancy St. Y’ves, Tommy Smith, Terry Potts, Mary Anne McArdle, Ann Marie Whitters and Catherine Melanson.
A service of funeral mass will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 12:00 P.M. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Morganton, with Father Stephen M. Hoyt officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Valdese.
A reception will be held at St. Charles Borromeo, following the graveside service.

The family would like to extend their appreciation for the wonderful healthcare of UNC Health Blue Ridge, and a thank you for the kindness of her friends at the hair salon, markets, pharmacy and restaurants of Valdese area.
