Jerry Lewis Prather

Mr. Jerry Lewis Prather, 79, of Morganton, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Mission Hospital McDowell, following a period of declining health.

Jerry was born on September 2, 1946, in McDowel County to the late John Lewis Prather and Mildred Buchanan Prather. He was member of Faith Freewill Baptist Church in Morganton, and a veteran of the U.S. Army. Jerry retired after a long career in the auto industry, as a salesman for many local dealerships throughout the years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene Prather, Reg and Roger Prather, and a sister, Jill Prather.

Surviving is his beloved wife, Barbara Prather of the home, two daughters, Trina Suzette Johnson and husband David of Gold Hill, NC, and Mindy Jane Prather of Morganton. Also surviving is one grandson, Gabriel Blake Edge.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
