Bessie Joan Bollinger Johnson, 81, of Connelly Springs, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2026 at The Greens at Viewmont, following a period of declining health.

Joan was born February 15, 1945 in Catawba County to the late A.C. Bollinger and Vivian Brendle Bollinger. She was a member of First Baptist Church Icard and retired from Burke County Public Library. Joan survived childhood polio, which caused mobility challenges, but she never let them hold her back. During her years at the library, she enjoyed driving the Book Mobile to nursing homes, schools, and people’s homes, giving them access to books.

She is survived by her husband of sixty years, Billy Glen Johnson; her sister, Judy Deal; her special niece, Jodie Anderson, and husband, Timothy; as well as several other loving nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Burke Memorial Park, with Rev. Marvin Wiley officiating.
