Joann Cannon Gray

Mrs. Joann Cannon Gray, 89, of Granite Falls, passed away at her residence, with her family by her side, on Sunday August 10, 2025.

Mrs. Gray was born April 14, 1936, in Caldwell County, a daughter of the late Perry F. and Myrtle Smith Cannon. She is retired from the Caldwell County School System, faithfully serving as a school bus driver and as a cafeteria worker. Joann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother great-grandmother and a friend to all. She was very supportive of her husband’s participation in the Caldwell County Honor Guard. Before her health declined, she was active in the Mountain Grove Baptist Church for many years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Robin Davis and siblings, Felix Cannon, Phyllis Amos, Louise Gray, Bruce Cannon, Wayne Cannon, Bobby Cannon, Troy Cannon, Rex Cannon and Terry Cannon.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 68 years, Donald William Gray, Sr., a daughter, Cynthia Herman and husband Dale and sons, Donald Gray and wife Melissa and Ronald Gray and wife Ginger, brothers, Jerald Cannon of Granite Falls, Timmy Cannon of Lenoir, and sisters, Kay Woods of Albemarle, NC and Penny Triplett of Lenoir. Also surviving are the apples of her eye, her grandchildren, Dustin Davis (Whitney), Megan Norwood (Chris), Jonathan Gray (Lindsay), Taylor Davis (Jon Miller), Ashley Mikles (Elmer), Abby Gray (Aaron Elmore), Danielle Gray (Ethan James), Ricky Engle (Leanne), Jayden Clark (Isaiah Kirby) and 14 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 5:00 P.M. Thursday August 14, 2025, at Mountain Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Marty Jacuin and Rev. China McCall officiating.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. Thursday at Mountain Grove Baptist Church.
