Joey Michael Rhoney, 65, of Hickory, passed away on Thursday January 1, 2026, at Autumn Care Nursing Center, after a period of declining health.

Joey was born November 20, 1960, in Burke County, a son of Glenda Poteat Rhoney and the late Jerry Rhoney. He served his country as a US Air Force veteran and was formally employed as a Behavior Health Tech.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother Charlie Rhoney.

Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Glenda Poteat Rhoney of Valdese, sons, Steven Rhoney of the home, Jeremy Rhoney of Granite Falls and a daughter, Rebecca Johnson (Aaron), of Newton, brothers, Rickey Rhoney (Mandy) of Morganton, and a sister, Karen Harris (Alan) of Drexel. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Thomas Johnson, Wesley Johnson, Michael Johnson, Maribell Johnson, Karoline Rhoney, Raelynn Rhoney, Brynlee Rhoney and Aiden Rhoney.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 6, 2026, in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with Rev. Rocky McLendon officiating. Interment will follow in the Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese.
