John David Anderson

John David Anderson, 79, of Valdese, passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 7, 2026 at UNC Healthcare in Morganton following a period of declining health.

John was born on May 20, 1947, in Burke County, to the late Charles Duval Anderson and Marie Edna Jarrett Anderson.

A man of remarkable skill and boundless love, John served as maintenance director for Burke County Public Schools and later retired from the Watauga County School System. He was also a long-time employee at Leonhardt Builders Supply. John’s greatest joy was his family; he was a loving father to his children and extended that fatherly love to countless others. He was a man of many talents, always ready to fix or build anything with his capable hands.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Charles Anderson, Jr., Betty Murray, Jimmy Anderson, Kent Anderson, Elaine Mosteller, and Bill Anderson.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 62 years, Brenda McCall Anderson of the home; his children, John Anderson, Jr., Robin Christina Anderson (Chad Bowen), Brian Anderson (Libby), Benjamin Philip Anderson (Lizz Sparks), Kimberly Anderson Shell (Drew); his grandchildren, John Anderson, III, Jennifer Anderson, Lilly Anderson, Cooper Anderson, Delaney Merrill, Ryder Anderson, Avery Anderson, Whissper Shambre, David Price, Parker Anderson, Liam Palmer, Drake Shell; his great grandchildren, Xaley, Preston and Brake; his sister, Nancy Brutz; his brother, Joe Anderson; beloved nieces, Jada Herman Isenhour and Wendy Hern Wagner; and a family that loved him dearly.

To honor his life and their 62 years of marriage, a service will be held at a future date.
