John W. Combs, 96 of Valdese NC, went home to be with the Lord on July 24, 2025 at Amorem Hospice.
John was born September 23, 1928 to the late Arnold Dee and Naomi Combs of Kentucky. John served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. John and Glenna left their birthplace in Kentucky in their early twenties and made south Florida their permanent home where they raised their children and lived for over 50 years. John worked as a machinist at Pratt and Whitney until the time he took a step of faith and started Combs Roof Cleaning and Coating. John was a very active member of First Baptist of Lantana. They later retired to their log cabin he built on High Peak Mountain in Valdese, NC where he was passionate about sharing Jesus with whomever he met, and spending endless amounts of time working in his garage on his vintage cars.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Glenna of 72 years, his sisters, Charmaine Westerman, LaDonna Lee Bradford & Janice Dee Combs.
John is survived by his children, Melissa Combs Westman (Larry), Timothy Dee Combs (Dolly), and Wendy Gail Semande (Marc); sister, Elizabeth Ann Harris (Weldon); grandchildren, Cindy, Andrew, Stacie, Hayden, Alex & Chase; and great-grandchildren, Ewintario, Love, Peace, Praise, and Theo.
A celebration of life service will take place on Monday, July 28, 2025 at East Valdese Baptist Church, Valdese, NC at 4:30 pm with Pastor Brett Howell officiating. John will be laid to rest on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory, NC. Military honors will be conducted by the North Carolina Army National Guard and the Caldwell County Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends prior to his service on Monday from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM at East Valdese Baptist Church.
