Kathy Anne Thomas Hunt, 73, of Morganton, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2026 at Rose Hill Retirement Community in Marion following a period of declining health.
Kathy was born on June 9, 1953, in McDowell County to the late Calvin David Thomas and Ruby Condrey Thomas. Family was always at the heart of Kathy’s life. She spoke often and lovingly of her parents and brothers, cherishing the bonds they shared throughout the years. In June 1975, she met the love of her life, and by December of that same year, they were married. As she began a family of her own, Kathy was determined to provide the same loving foundation she had known growing up, raising her family in a home grounded in faith, love, and devotion to God.
Her faith was an enduring part of who she was, and she became a devoted member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Morganton. Throughout her years there, Kathy shared her gifts and dedication in many ways. She sang soprano in the church choir, served in a leadership role on the church council, and devoted nearly 20 years to ensuring the church looked its very best for Sunday morning worship. Beyond her service to the church, Calvary Lutheran gave Kathy something truly special: a circle of women who became more than friends. They became the sisters she treasured for the rest of her life.
Kathy retired from J. Iverson Riddle, formerly known as Western Carolina Center, after 40 years of dedicated service. In retirement, she enjoyed antiquing, but her greatest joy was always found in the people she loved most. She treasured her roles as a wife, mother, and grandmother, finding happiness in time spent with her family. Kathy had a gift for sharing her laughter, warmth, and love with everyone she met, leaving a little of her kindness with all who had the privilege of knowing her.Above all, Kathy’s life was defined by her love of family, her steadfast faith, and the countless ways she gave of herself to others. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the friendships she nurtured, and the many lives she touched with her generous heart and joyful spirit.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her eldest brother, Stanley Thomas.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Thomas Allen Hunt of the home; sons, Hank Hunt and wife Jennifer of Valdese, and Seth Hunt and wife Andrea of Marion; grandchildren, Aiden Allen Hunt, Cora Riley Hunt, Ryan Victoria Hunt, and Campbell Thomas Calvin Hunt. Also surviving are her brothers, Jerald Thomas of Asheville, and Keith Thomas of Greensboro.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Calvary Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Carlson officiating.
The family will receive friends on Saturday prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Music Program of Calvary Lutheran Church at 119 North King Street, Morganton, North Carolina, 28655, or to the Alzheimer's Association at 225 N Michigan Ave. Floor 17 Chicago, IL 60601.
