Kenneth Wayne Franklin, 77, of Valdese, passed away on Sunday February 1, 2026, at Amorem, Burke Hospice, after a period of declining health.
Mr. Franklin was born January 7, 1949, in Burke County, a son of the late Winfred and Lonnie Smith Franklin. Kenneth retired from the NC State Department of Correction. He served his country as a member of the US Army Reserve and was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. After retirement he got to indulge in his favorite pastime, playing golf, NASCAR, Carolina Basketball and spending time at Daniel Boone Campround, visiting with all the other campers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Jimmy Franklin, Dysart Franklin and Glenn Franklin.
Surviving is his companion for the past 23 years, Dru Wheeling Powell of the home, a son Josh Franklin of Valdese, two daughters, Ana Franklin of Asheville and Tonya Brown of Pageland, SC, two sisters, Anne Buchanan, Lynn Franklin and three grandchildren, Jessica, Santiago, Ana Leigh and one great-grandchild. Also surviving are Dru’s son, Brett Huffman (Lauren) and Dru’s grandchildren Claire and Hayes Huffman who he dearly loved.
A Gathering of friends will be held Saturday February 7, 2026, from 4:30 PM until 5:30 PM at Heritage Funeral Service Valdese.
