Kenneth Grant Greer

Kenneth Grant Greer, 86, of Morganton, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2025 at his residence following a period of declining health.

Kenneth was born June 16, 1939 in Watauga County to the late Jacob R. Greer and Annie Louis Miller Greer. Kenneth, a self-taught machinist, received North Carolina's Governors Award of Excellence for fabricating boiler parts at Broughton Hospital. He also constructed motorized beds for people with disabilities and fabricated various types of equipment to assist individuals with disabilities. Known for his wit and sense of humor, Kenneth's greatest love was his family.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Larry Grant Greer; brothers, Leonard, Elton, and Jack Greer; and sisters, Lena Greer Norris, and Emma Mae Kulgten.

He is survived by his loving wife of sixty five years, Ethel Canter Greer; son, David Greer and wife Jackie; daughter, Dawn Pless and husband Jim; grandchildren, Jacob Greer, Ashlee Greer, Kyle Orders and wife Ashley, Cole Orders (Nicole), Josh Pless and wife Ally, and Joseph Pless; and great-grandchildren, Ashtyn Orders, Kynleigh Orders, Lilah Pless, and Baby Beau who is expected soon. Also surviving is his brother, Johnny Greer and wife Doris, and sister, Gail Hayes and husband David.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at 3:00 PM at New Beginning Missionary Baptist Church (4415 Calico Rd Lenoir, NC 28645) with Pastor Daniel Buchanan and Rev. David Orders officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the church.
