Kimberly Dawn Whisnant, 66, of Morganton, North Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 26, 2026, after a vibrant and well-lived life. Kim was born in McDowell County on April 6, 1960, to the late James Robert Whisnant and Norma Jean Hall Whisnant.

Kim will be remembered fondly for her fierce love of God, her country, her family and friends, and for life itself. Her life was defined by her selfless and fearless nature. With a powerful devotion to Christ, Kim lived a life of service to others. She faithfully served her Lord and church family by volunteering countless hours over the years—acting as her congregation’s librarian, creating worship slide content, and leading Women of Hope. She gave her time to countless youth and assisted with Vacation Bible School for many years. One of Kim’s greatest experiences was proudly participating in a Christ-centered mission journey to Alaska.

Kim sought adventure and fun wherever she could find it. A lover of nature and the outdoors, she enjoyed horseback riding, riding ATVs, and NASCAR. She was a certified paraplegic scuba diver and a proud Seattle Seahawks fan. Kim was a bright woman with many academic successes and God-given talents. She was a gifted crafter, seamstress, and quilter.

Kimberly had an unmatched wit and never met a stranger. She was a devoted friend who found the positive in every situation. Kim was always available to listen, offer help, or provide a warm meal. Her door was always open, making everyone feel welcome and at home. She had a special ability to find beauty in ashes and bring light to darkness.

In addition to her parents, Kim was preceded in death by her infant child, Amy. She is survived by her brother, Joey Whisnant; his wife, Amy; and their children, Madison and Boone.

Left to cherish her high-spirited memory are countless neighbors and friends who will never forget the impact Kim made on their lives—especially her self-proclaimed “A-Team”: Carolyn Davis, Janet Gribble-Hart, Vicki Shuping, and Stacy Wichie.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to her faithful caregivers from Atrium Healthy at Home—Christy Green, Heather Hallyburton, Jana Hewitt and Victoria Scott—for their compassionate care, kindness, and unwavering support.

Kimberly’s life and legacy will be honored at Catawba Valley Baptist Church on Saturday, May 2, 2026. The family will receive friends at 2:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 3:00 PM, officiated by Reverend Jesse Lott. A meal and time of fellowship with family will follow in the Catawba Valley Baptist Church Family Life Center. Memorial contributions may be made in Kim’s memory to the Catawba Valley Baptist Church Building Fund.
