Mr. Landy Lee Whitener, 64, of Morganton, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at his residence, following a period of declining health.

Landy was born on September 2, 1961 in Catawba County to the late Glen Hoover and Peggy Sigmon. He loved to be on a riverbank emersed in nature and was an artistic woodworker, who made magic with his hands. Beautiful art, from walking sticks and dreamcatchers to the thousands of cabinets he built. Landy loved to cook and feed crowds. He loved his family and friends fiercely and especially enjoyed his yearly fishing and hunting trips.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Teddy Teague and Randy Hoglen.

Landy is survived by two daughters, Holly Huffman and husband Guy of Morganton, grandchildren, Kendra, Kasidy and Kolton Huffman, and Macy McCombs, and step grandchildren, Mahayla and Zander. Also surviving is his sister, Mary Teague, his beloved dog Marley, and his extended friends and family.

A memorial service will be held and announced by the family at a later date.
