Larry “Tub” Stowe Rhoney, 79, of Newton passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
Born in Catawba County on March 4, 1946, he was the son of the late Ruffin Stowe (R.S.) Rhoney and Annie Arney Rhoney. Tub loved being on the lake or wading through streams trying to catch the biggest fish possible. He was also an avid gardener and enjoyed being outdoors.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his previous wife, Janet Rhoney and brother, Duke Rhoney.
Survivors include his wife, Debi Davis Rhoney of the home; daughter, Cathy McFalls and husband Blaine McFalls of Iron Station; grandchildren, Cayden McFalls and Addison McFalls; brother, George Rhoney and wife Cheryl Ann of Connelly Springs; sisters-in-law, Faye Caldwell of Newton, Marie Mahala of Maiden and Gail Rhoney of Hildebran; and stepchildren, Michelle Clay Townsend (Scottie), Bridget Davis Robinson (Rex), and Dustin Wayne Davis (Autumn).
We find comfort in knowing that Larry’s (Tub’s) legacy lives on through the unconditional love he shared and the memories we will cherish forever.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, October 26, 2025 at Liberty Baptist Church, 1292 Cape Hickory Road, Hickory, NC 28601.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the church.
