Lois Ann Shuford Newton, 83, of Morganton, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at UNC Health Blue Ridge of Morganton following a period of declining health.

Lois was born February 17, 1943 in Burke County, a daughter of the late Doc Shuford and Beatrice Lail Shuford Goode. She enjoyed a variety of sports and was content to watch any that were on. She particularly enjoyed football and was a fan of the Miami Dolphins.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in passing by her former husband, Dennis Newton; a brother, Charles Shuford; and a half-sister, Barbara Bolick.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Tim Newton (Debbie) of Morganton; daughter, Denise Fox (Jeff) of Wilmington; half-sister, Bobbi Neaves of Connelly Springs; five grandchildren, Kenan deAndrade (Will) of Elizabethtown, Anna Tart of Fayetteville, Nicholas Newton (Alannya) of Morganton, Jared Newton (Saundra) of Morganton, and Heath Newton (Anna) of Morganton; six greatgrandchildren, Ava Newton, Carter Newton, Bella Newton, Halo Newton, Jax Newton, and Jace Newton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at 3:00 PM at United Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Danny Castle officiating.

Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory is assisting the family.
