Lucille Carpenter Humphries

Lucille Carpenter Humphries, 87, of Rutherford College, went to her Heavenly Home on Wednesday January 28, 2026, from her residence after a period of declining health.

Mrs. Humphries was born August 11, 1938, in Anson County, a daughter of the late Raymond Kemp and Rosa Wright Carpenter. Lucille was a dedicated member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, helping with Vacation Bible School and numerous other activities of the church. She retired as a seamstress from Sherrills Furniture and after retirement, worked at Icard First Baptist Church Daycare Center, a job she truly loved.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Cecil Wheeler Phillips, Jr, second husband, Joseph Eugene Humphries, a brother, Johnny Carpenter and grandson, Wesley Hart.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Greg Phillips of Rutherford College, three daughters, Sandra Phillips, of Valdese, Pamela Bridges (Jeffery), of Valdese and Nancy Young (Gene) of Murrells Inlet, SC. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Lindsay Shoemake (Charles), Eric Sigmon (Brandi), Justin Young and Hillary Kline, nine great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Funeral Services for Lucille Carpenter Humphries will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday February 4, 2026, at Cornerstone Baptist Church, with Rev. Dr. Jay Robison officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at Cornerstone Baptist Church.

The family would like to thank caregiver, Toni Riffe and hospice nurse, Kristin McKinney for the excellent care given to Mrs. Humphries during her illness.
