Mamie Josephine McNeely Baker, 87, of Denver, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 10, 2026 at Catawba Valley Medical Center following a period of declining health.

Mamie was born September 23, 1938, in Burke County, a daughter of the late Julius Marvin and Mary Elizabeth Earls McNeely. She was a longtime member of St. John’s Baptist Church. Devoted to her family, Mamie was known to be a hard-working woman. Her family and friends remember her as a beautiful blonde, statuesque and gracious lady. She enjoyed reading and puzzles of all kind.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in passing by her husband, Larry Baker; four sisters, Ruby Huffman, Vernie Huffman, Hettie Roberts, Effie Thorne; and a brother, David James Franklin McNeely.

Those left to cherish her memory include her three children, Ric Buff (Barbara), Mike Buff (Vickie), and Kathey Hutchins; a sister, Lillie Bolick; four grandchildren, Sasha Radford, Noah Buff, Tabatha Felts (Brian), and Brett Hutchins; nine greatgrandchildren, Mason Maitland, Kate Radford, Daniel Radford, Alexis Felts, Makayla Felts, Peyton Felts, Spencer Felts, Kai Hutchins, and Seah Hutchins; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at 11 AM at Wilkie’s Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Thurman Roe and Rev. Kenneth Bryant officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service from 10 AM – 11 AM.
