Listen to Obituary

God sent an angel on June 30, 2025, to bring home His faithful servant, Mrs. Margaret Ann Berry, 91, of 1655 Berrytown Street, Valdese. Born on Jan. 21, 1934, to the late Mr. Vono Johnson and Mrs. Margaret Myrtle Fullwood Johnson. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Margaret attended Olive Hill High School and graduated from there in 1953. She retired from Valdese Manufacturing. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Berry, and her oldest son, Terry A. Johnson. She leaves to celebrate her home-going, a son, Arthur J. Berry (Shauni), Gregory L. Berry (Julie), Beverly A. Berry, and Natalie D. Phillips, two loving sisters, Maseline Berry and Shirley Kincaid, all of Valdese; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and friends.

Margaret’s favorite bible verse, "Be ye also ready," is found in Matthew 24:44, which instructs believers to be prepared because the Son of Man will come at an hour they do not expect. She was a loving, quiet-spirited, and caring mother. She enjoyed trips to the mountains and quiet walks in God’s creation. Her favorite saying is, “Walking is your medicine.”

By God’s grace, Margaret visited Germany on two occasions, Aug-Oct 2021 and July 2023-April 2025. While there, she attended Faith Baptist Church, Kaiserslautern, Germany, and the International Baptist Church, Stuttgart, Germany. Margaret was amazed to see different nationalities from Africa, Brazil, Spain, Poland, India, Germany, and Americans, all praising God. Margaret enjoyed listening to God’s word and singing hymns of grace. It brought so much joy to Margaret to see children playing, especially during the Children’s Christmas play. A reflection of a mother’s heart. Margaret was loved by many and will be truly missed.
