Mark Self

Mark Self, 69, of Hildebran, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at Frye Regional Medical Center.

Mark was born April 8, 1956 in Graham County to the late Riley Self and Zetta Anderson Self. Mark was a simple man, who enjoyed working outside doing many different hobbies from small engine repair, wood working, or being in his garden. He loved his family dearly and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Mark worked in the furniture industry and served honorably in the United States Marine Corps.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Anthony Bryan Self; brothers, Jerry Self and wife Sharon, and Tony Self; sisters, Cleo Sharp, Becky Smith, and Pam Worley.

He is survived by his wife of fifty years and the love of his life, Rita Mathis Self; children, Angie Self, Pam Greene, Timmy Self and wife Crystal, Chelsea Minnick and Joshua Minnick; grandchildren, Bridget Waldrop and husband Brian, Sierah Self, Lindsey Kessler and husband Gavin, Mark Self and wife Nykkole, and Katie Self; and great grandchildren, Alyssa Cline, Anthony Self, Liam Waldrop, and Delliah Self. Also surviving are sisters, Avis Severt, Dottie Smith, and Mavis Cody and husband Johnny; brother, Benny Self and wife Clarice Ann; and numerous nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date by the family.

Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory in Valdese is assisting the family.
