Mary Ellen Monroe Spicer

Mary Ellen Monroe Spicer, 80, of Valdese, passed away at home on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 following a period of declining health.

Mary was born May 31, 1945 in Burke County, a daughter of the late John Clifton and Eula Buchanan Monroe. She loved crafts, and she won many awards for her excellent crocheted pieces. In her spare time, she could often be found working on a jigsaw puzzle.

In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in passing by her spouse, Buddy Gene Spicer; two brothers, Cameron Monroe and Michael Monroe; and a sister ,Claudia Monroe Berry.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Clifton Spicer (Angela) and Neil Spicer (Blai); sister, Miriam Monroe Drum; six grandchildren, Nicholas Spicer, Cole Spicer, Kailey Spicer, Hannah Spicer, Bree Spicer, and Noah Spicer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 1 PM in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with Rev. Mike Spicer officiating. Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
