Mavis Sue Carpenter Rust

Mavis Sue Carpenter Rust, 92, of Valdese, went to her Heavenly Home on Tuesday October 7, 2025, at The Berkeley of Morganton, after a period of declining health.

Mavis was born August 7, 1933, in Burke County, a daughter of the late Gordon Burgin and Eva Bollinger Carpenter. She was a faithful member of the Lakeview Baptist Church for many years and retired from the Burke County School System as a lunchroom food service manager. Mavis was known for her baking skills, especially her yeast rolls. She always saw that each child that wanted one, always got one (or two).

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by h er husband, David Lee Rust, Sr and a sister, Gladys Stilwell.

Those left to cherish her memory are her three sons, David Lee Rust Jr. and wife Kaye of Valdese, Donald Anthony Rust and wife Cynthia of Roanoke, VA, and Dennis Gordon Rust and wife Denise of Morganton. Also surviving are the apples of her eye, her grandchildren, Ashley Kaye Carpenter (Anthony), Kelly Elise Chappuis (Drew), Amanda Bean (Rob), Kristen Ann Rust and great-grandchildren, A.J. Chappuis, Charles Chappuis and Teagan Carpenter.

Funeral Services for Mavis Rust will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday October 11, 2025, in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese, with Rev. Kenneth Baker officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery.

The Family will receive friends from 10 until 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese.

The family would like to especially thank the staff of The Berkeley for all the special care given to Mavis and family for the last three years and Medi Home Hospice for all the attention given to Mavis during her stay at the Berkeley.
