Michael Steven Garhan, 50, of Hickory, passed away accidentally on Thursday, June 11, 2026.

Michael was born June 6, 1976 in Topeka, Kansas to Robert Garhan and Cynthia Gilmer Garhan. He served in the United States Army and worked as a mechanic. Michael will be remembered by many as “Big Mike” who had a gentle soul, kind words to say, a helping hand, and a reminder that he loved a good vegan meal. You could find Michael in the downtown area of Hickory having a great conversation with others or in a chair waiting for the band to start playing during concert times.

Michael is preceded in death by his wife, Crystal Garhan.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one son.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at 1:00 PM in the lobby of Greater Hickory Cooperative Christian Ministries. 

Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory in Valdese is assisting the family.
