Mrs. Joan Icenhour McCurry, 90, of Valdese, passed away on Tuesday July 29, 2025 at Grace Village Assisted Living Center, Granite Falls, after a period of declining health.

Mrs. McCurry was born June 20, 1935 the Kings Creek area of Caldwell County, a daughter of the late Lester and Artie Williams Icenhour. She attended Lees/McRay College and worked for 30 years as a director of medical records and then obtained her real estate license and worked for a 3 years with her own real estate company. She then worked for another 27 years with Breeden Real Estate. Joan was a faithful member of the Valdese First Baptist Church, serving as a choir member, Sunday School teacher and member of numerous committees.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Oscar McCurry; son, Philp McCurry; grandson, Michael Murphy; and sisters; Christine Queen (Jack) and Allie Sue White (Denver).

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Michael McCurry; and wife, Debbie; and the apples of her eye, her grandchildren, Nicole McCurry, Jennifer Lang, and Justin Seagle; and great-granddaughter, Sophie Lang. Also a number of special nieces and nephew.

A Service of Remembrance will be held in the Valdese First Baptist Church with Rev Dr. Josh Lail officiating. Interment will be held in the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery, all at a later date to be announced.

The family will receive friends following the services at the Valdese First Baptist Church.

The family would like to thank Grace Village and the workers in the Memory Care unit for the care given to our mother for the last two years. Also a special thanks to Carolina Caring, especially Ashley, for their care and attention to Mom’s needs.
