Norman E. Huffman, 81, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025, at Amorem Hospice, surrounded by his family.
Born on January 26, 1944, Norman grew up learning the value of hard work at his grandmother's side on her farm—lessons that would shape the man he became.
Norman was a devoted husband, a great father, and a man of loyalty, strength, and quiet wisdom.
Norman dedicated 25 years of his life to protecting his community, serving as a police officer and rising to Chief of Police for the Drexel Police Department before retirement. He also served with pride in the National Guard and was a volunteer fireman.
Norman loved spending time outside working in his yard, walking his dogs, and tending the garden. He took great pride in keeping his home and yard looking neat.
This past year revealed the true measure of Norman’s character. Through extended illness, hospital and rehab stays, he formed friendships with nurses and staff, bringing his kindness and warmth even to the most difficult days.
Norman leaves behind his beloved wife of 59 years, Melva Huffman; daughters Jamie Huffman (Svetlana) and Kristy King; granddaughter Kaela Fox (Zach Fox); grandson Braxton King; and great-granddaughters Lennox Fox and Phoenix Fox. He was preceded in death by his mother, Treva Franklin; his stepfather, Iverson Franklin; and his grandmother, Martha Huffman.
Please join the family for his graveside service that will be held at Burke Memorial Park at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 20th with Brad Browning officiating and military honors provided by the N.C. National Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider sending a donation to Saint Judes Children’s Hospital.
