Mr. Paul David “P.D.” Fowler, 83, of Icard, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2026 at Autumn Care Nursing Center, following a period of declining health.

P.D. was born on February 16, 1943 in Burke County to the late James Melvin Fowler and Flora Jane Allison Fowler. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a M.P. during Vietnam, worked for the Hickory City Police Dept. and retired from Voorhes and Pitt Lumber Company. P.D. was also well known as an outstanding baseball coach and mentor to countless local high school kids for over 50 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, James Danny Fowler, William Max Fowler and Milburn Lee Fowler, and two sisters, Freda Smart and Pauline Propst.

Surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and special friends of the family Jacob Zimmerman with wife Kali, and his children, Lila and Scottie.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, with Rev Wayne White and Rev. Dennis Geouge officiating and military honors provided by the N.C. National Guard.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.
