Mr. Paul Gene Mayfield, 80, of Morganton, passed away on Friday July 25, 2025 at Atrium Health Winston-Salem, after a period of declining health.
Mr. Mayfield was born May 9, 1945, in Burke County, a son of the late Preston and Mary Stamey Mayfield. He was a faithful member of the Zion Road Baptist Church, a graduate of Oak Hill High School in 1963 and Carroll Tech in 1997 with a degree in HVAC and CDL Truck Driving. Paul served his country as a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and worked as a fixer with Lawler Hosiery mill for 25 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Gail Coleman Mayfield, brothers, Frankie Steven Mayfield, Larry P. Mayfield and sister, Linda Kaye King.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Paula Cherry and Mary Lee, both of Morganton, siblings, Barbara Burris and Judy King, both of Morganton and Kathy Warren of Connelly Springs. Also surviving are the apples of his eye, his grandchildren, Linda Marie Bugg, Erin Nicole Bugg, Steven Louis Cherry III, Johnathon Paul Bugg, Blake Haden Cherry and great-grandchildren, Langley Lingafelt, Zaylee Lingafelt, and Mac Lingafelt.
Funeral Services for Paul Gene Mayfield will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday August 3, 2025, in the Zion Road Baptist Church, with Rev. Micah Piercy officiating. Interment will follow with Military Honors by the NC National Guard in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Valdese.
He family will receive friends from 2 until 3:00 P.M. Sunday at Zion Road Baptist Church.
